Academic Library Administration—A Look at Library Management

The Los Angeles Chapter of ASIS&T and the SJSU ASIS&T Student Chapter cordially invite you to a presentation by Marianne Afifi, Associate Dean of the Oviatt Library at California State University Northridge. Ms. Afifi is responsible for the Library’s day-to-day operations, a variety of library services, emergency planning and facilities, as well as for Special Collections & Archives. She also participates in strategic planning, decision-making and fund raising efforts for the Library. Ms. Afifi recently served as the Acting Dean of the Oviatt Library.

Night at the Museum with Richard Hulser (with SJSU ASIS&T Student Chapter)

The Los Angeles Chapter of ASIS&T and the SJSU ASIS&T Student Chapter cordially invite you to a presentation by Richard P. Hulser, Chief Librarian of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. Mr. Hulser has 30 years of international experience working in and with a variety of library and cultural institutions to enhance their use of technology for information management. Mr. Hulser's previous positions have been in corporate and academic libraries as well as information services companies. Mr. Hulser is an SIIA Certified Contents Rights Manager, a Fellow of SLA and currently chair of the SLA Museums, Arts and Humanities Division. He has held a variety of other elected and appointed positions in SLA and is a member of ASIS&T and ALA.

Wes Hagen is the vineyard manager and winemaker for Clos Pepe Vineyards and Estate Wines, as well as Axis Mundi Wines, Clos Pepe’s second label. Wes retired from a lucrative career in public education to become a winemaker in 1996. His early training came from UC Davis’ Extension program, his work in 1996 at Babcock Winery, and from a decade of home winemaking in Southern California.

2011 McKinley Winners!

Congratulations to Pixie Stardust, this year's winner of the Margaret McKinley Scholarship Essay Competition. Pixie is working towards her MS in Library and Information Management at the University of South Australia.  Pixie will receive $1000 US reimbursement funding to attend the 2011 ASIS&T Conference to be held in New Orleans, LA,  and a one year membership to ASIS&T.

2011 CISTA goes to Nicholas Belkin

The 2011 Los Angeles Chapter of American Information Science and Technology Contributions to Information Science and Technology Award goes to Dr. Nicholas Belkin. This annual award is presented to one or more individuals who have made significant contributions to the field. Recipients are those individuals who are recognized by their colleagues as exceptional leaders whose dedication, commitment and vision inspire others, or whose singular contribution to the field of information science has been particularly significant.

2011 Margaret McKinley Memorial Student Scholarship Essay Competition

LACASIST is sponsoring the 19th Annual Margaret McKinley Student Scholarship Essay Competition. This competition, first established in 1992, and renamed in memory of the late Margaret McKinley in 1993, is intended to encourage students in Library and Information Science programs to consider the benefits of participation in the activities of professional societies.

Applications are being accepted until midnight July 30, 2011 PST.
