The California Digital Library: Past, Present, and Future was held on June 27, 2000 at the UCLA Faculty Center. Laine Farley, Director of Digital Library Services which designed the CDL Web site, spoke about the formation and organization of the CDL at this dinner meeting. She discussed current and future projects, and what the CDL means to non-University of California constituencies.
An Afternoon of Library and Information Science Career Networking was held on May 7, 2000 at Cal State Fullerton. The program began with a panel of recent graduates working in the field of library and information science. They answered questions, and shared their experiences. A panel of library and information science professionals provided insights on how best to convey strengths to employers. Following the two panels, participants had an opportunity to network and visited tables sponsored by potential employers and professional organizations.
The topic for the 2000 LACASIS March meeting was: The Changing Face of Library and Information Science. It was held February 29, 2000 at UCLA. Library and Information Science students had an opportunity to discuss with recent graduates current positions and projects that are transforming the field.
The 1999 LACASIS/SLA Holiday Meeting was held December 14 at the Athenaeum at California Institute of Technology. The speaker was Dr. Alan Kay. The topic of his talk was: The Computer Revolution Hasn't Happened Yet.
The program Got E-Books? was held April 18, 2000 at the Claremont Colleges Honnold/Mudd Library. LACASIS invited representatives from two libraries that have e-books to share their experiences and lessons learned. What questions should be asked before signing the dotted line? Was the implementation process really quick and easy? And most importantly, what do the library users think?
