The LACASIS June business meeting's topic was Information Architecture: Practice and Perils. It was held on Wednesday, June 27, 2001 at the Culver Hotel. The May 2001 workshop on Licensing 101: a Workshop on Licensing Digital Resources was held Saturday, May 19, 2001 at the UCLA Young Research Library. Sharon Farb, Coordinator for Digital Acquisitions for the UCLA Library, was the speaker.
The topic for the 2001 LACASIS March meeting was: Midstream: Exploring Your Career Options. It was held March 20, 2001 at the Empress Pavilion restaurant in Los Angeles. Kathleen Smith spoke about career planning, career retooling and exploring alternatives to your current job.
The LACASIS January dinner program's topic was The Internet and Web Privacy. It was held Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at the UCLA Faculty Center. Speaker Karen Coyle's presentation explained the privacy risks of Internet use and how these relate to patron and staff use of the Net. Topics of discussion included: current U.S. privacy laws, technical solutions to privacy risks, how libraries can educate the public, IP addresses, cookies and security issues.
LACASIS held its Contributions to Information Science Award Program on October 19, 2000 at the UCLA Faculty Center. Dr. Michael Buckland, winner of this year's award, spoke on the topic, "Who Was Goldberg? A Forgotten Pioneer of Information Science."
Dr. Eugene Garfield spoke on the topic ASIS: Past, Present, and Future on Wednesday October 4, 2000 at UCLA. He addressed the recent ASIS name change and other significant changes with respect to SIGs, membership, publications, finances, and meetings.
