LACASIS' 2002 Contribution to Information Science Award (CTISA) Recipient, Tefko Savacevic, Ph.D., Professor II, School of Communication, Information and Library Studies, Rutgers University, will speak on "Human Information Behavior In Digital Libraries."
The topic for the 2002 LACASIS March meeting was: Weaving the tapestry of cultural heritage: Museums and the Online Archive of California. It was held Thursday, March 21, 2002 at the UCLA Faculty Center. Günter Waibel, Digital Media Developer at the UC Berkeley Art Museum, provided a behind-the-scenes tour of what it takes to merge collections data and accompanying multimedia surrogates from disparate local sources into one union database.
The LACASIS February program was an on site demo on Wednesday, February 27, 2002 of the UCLA Visualization Portal. This new $2 million facility is an immersive virtual reality theater that supports researchers and faculty in their use of visualization, multimedia, high-performance computing, and networking technologies. It is currently the only academic facility of its kind in the West.
The LACASIS - SLA/SCC annual holiday meeting will be held December 11, 2001 at the Summit House restaurant in Fullerton, CA. Ron Kilgore, KFWB news anchor, is the featured speaker.
The 2001 Contributions to Information Science Award dinner was held Tuesday, November 11, 2001 at the UCLA Faculty Center. Elaine Svenonius, Professor Emerita, was this year's award recipient.
