2010 McKinley Winners!

We are pleased to announce our 2010 McKinley winners!


Ian Leong, University of California at Los Angeles

Ian is a student in UCLA’s Department of Information Studies and expects to complete a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science in 2011. He also holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Virginia, a Doctor of Philosophy degree in English from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Mr. Leong is currently a Graduate Student Researcher with Nexleaf Analytics, a non-profit corporation aimed at making mobile phone sensing technologies available to communities and organizations around the world.

Runners Up

1. Steven Chong, San Jose State University

Steven is enrolled in San Jose State University’s Library and Information Science program.  He anticipates receiving a Master’s of Library and Information Science in May 2011, along with a Certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).  Mr. Chong holds a B.S. in Biological Sciences from UC Davis and is interested in biodiversity informatics, with emphasis on digitization, improving accessibility to scientific data, and GIS analysis.  His prior work experience includes stints at the California Academy of Sciences and the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History.  He is currently a member of ASIS&T and SLA.

2. Katja Broddesson, San Jose State University

Katja is enrolled in the MLIS program at San Jose State University. She graduated summa cum laude with her BA in English Literature from San Francisco State University in January 2010 and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa in May 2010. New to the SJSU SLIS, Ms. Broddesson pursues her degree with much enthusiasm and, having developed an interest in information literacy and equal access, she volunteers at a local public library teaching basic computer and internet skills to the public. She is hoping to include coursework oriented towards academic librarianship or archiving in the future. Ms. Broddesson is a member of the ALA and CLA.
